Omar Minaya had a tough day on the mound.
By allowing seven runs in only four-and-a-third innings Sunday against the Washington Nationals, Omar Minaya did not give the Mets a chance to win. And they didn't.
So Omar Minaya took the loss.
Now I know what you're saying. "Steve, you're confusing Omar Minaya for Oliver Perez." Only, I'm not.
You see, it's way too easy to blame Ollie for this. Ollie is what Ollie is. But Ollie didn't decide that he was suddenly going to be more consistent than the pitcher the Mets saw for two-and-a-half years. Omar Minaya did. Ollie didn't decide to pay himself $36 million dollars. Omar Minaya did. And Ollie didn't decide he was a better fit for the Mets than Derek Lowe. Omar Minaya did.
So those seven earned runs won't be charged to Ollie. They'll be charged to Minaya.
In other words, I'm holding Omar Minaya responsible. The Wilpons should as well.
